Prof. Dr. Diego Calvetti is an Assistant Professor at the School of Civil Construction, Faculty of Engineering, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Also, he is an Invited Assistant Professor at the University of Porto's Faculty of Engineering, where he also served as Assistant Director of the MBUILD Erasmus Mundus Master's program.
He holds a PhD in Civil Engineering with specialisation in construction from the University of Porto (2021), and an MSc in Industrial Construction from the Federal Fluminense University, Brazil (2016). He has been a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) by PMI since 2011. With over 23 years of professional experience in project management across mega-engineering projects exceeding $1 billion, Dr Calvetti bridges academic research with industrial practice. He is an integrated member of the CONSTRUCT/GEQUALTEC research unit at the University of Porto. Also, He serves as Chair of the Human-Data Interaction (HDI) Committee of the European Council on Computing in Construction (EC3).
His research focuses on digital transformation in construction, including Electronic Performance Monitoring (EPM), Human-Data Interaction (HDI), Digital Twins, openBIM, Construction 4.0/5.0, and the circular economy.
Prof Dr Calvetti currently leads the 'Construction LAB 5.0: Digital tools to enhance Construction Sites, focusing on improved Productivity, Health, and Safety (CoLAB 5.0)' project at PUC Chile. CoLAB5.0 addresses the challenge of accelerating Chile's transition toward Construction 5.0 by integrating technological innovation, digital ethics, and educational transformation. While new regulations increase the complexity and compliance burden of implementing EPM, they also create a critical impetus for innovation, with research potential in leveraging the convergence of HDI, EPM, and ethical digitalisation in CI. As an active contributor to the international research community, he has participated in European projects, including EEA Grants initiatives on circular construction and Digital Product Passports.
